Pandas Settle Into New Home At San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance shared new photos of Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, the first pandas to enter the U.S. in 21 years.
SAN DIEGO, CA — A pair of giant pandas are settling into their new home at the San Diego Zoo.
The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance on Tuesday released new photos of 4-year-old Yun Chuan and 3-year-old Xin Bao, who are not yet available for public viewing. The first-look photos show the duo in the their private habitat at the San Diego Zoo, where they have been treated to fresh bamboo, as well as a local version of wowotou, a traditional Chinese bun also called "panda bread."
The pandas are the first to enter the U.S. in 21 years. The duo arrived safely in San Diego from China on June 27.

Yun Chuan, a male, was already connected to the San Diego Zoo. His mother, Zhen Zhen, was born at the zoo in 2007. His name is a nod to his grandmother, Bai Yun, who lived at the zoo for 23 years.
He is identifiable by his long, slightly pointed nose. He seems to be comfortable exploring on the grass or climbing trees, according to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance.

Xin Bao, a female, is best recognized by her round face and big, fluffy ears. She enjoys quietly sunbathing and eating her favorite foods, according to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. Her name means "precious treasure of prosperity and abundance."
More information about when the pandas will be ready for public viewing will be released in the coming weeks.
