Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Coaster Train In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man was hit and killed by a train Thursday in San Diego, authorities said.

The deadly collision happened at about 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Sorrento Valley Road and Carmel Mountain Road, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

"When San Diego police officers arrived, they found a man who was hit by a southbound North County Transit District Coaster train," sheriff's Sgt. Jason King said. "The patient did not survive his injuries."

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the man and determine the cause and manner of his death, King said.

The sheriff's department was handling the investigation because the department's Transit Enforcement Unit investigates incidents along the routes of the North County Transit District.
