Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car In Kearny Mesa

A car struck and killed a 62-year-old pedestrian in a Kearny Mesa intersection early Tuesday, authorities reported.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A car struck and killed a 62-year-old pedestrian in a Kearny Mesa intersection early Tuesday, authorities reported.

Richard Nichols of San Diego was crossing Clairemont Mesa Boulevard at Mercury Street against a red light when the westbound Subaru hit him about 5:45 a.m., according to police and the county Medical Examiner's Office.

Paramedics took Nichols to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police shut down westbound traffic lanes in the area to allow for investigation and cleanup. The roadway was fully reopened again as of 9 a.m.
