SAN DIEGO, CA — A pedestrian was seriously injured Friday when he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in the University City neighborhood, police said.

The man was walking from the east curb to the west curb at 8500 Genesee Ave. at 1:24 a.m. Friday when he was struck by a red Kia traveling southbound, according to Officer David O'Brien of the San Diego Police Department.

The Kia left the scene, but the vehicle was located unoccupied a short distance away, the officer said. There was no immediate description of the suspect driver.

The man was rushed by an ambulance to a hospital. His injuries were considered to be life-threatening.

SDPD Traffic Division units responded and were investigating the collision.
