Police Investigate Death Of Girl In Mission Bay Water-Scooter Crash
"Tragically, despite the best efforts of emergency responders and medical personnel, she died of her injuries."
SAN DIEGO, CA — The circumstances surrounding the death last weekend of a 12-year-old girl who was struck by a personal watercraft while paddle- boarding in Mission Bay remained under investigation Tuesday.
An 18-year-old Bellflower man was riding the water scooter when it hit the child in the De Anza Cove area shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday, according to the San Diego Police Department.
"The girl was brought to shore, where police officers immediately rendered aid and began CPR until relieved by fire-rescue personnel," SDPD public-affairs Lt. Adam Sharki said. "The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, despite the best efforts of emergency responders and medical personnel, she died of her injuries."

Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, Sharki said.
The SDPD Harbor Unit is investigating the accident.
