Police Investigate Woman's Suspicious Death At San Diego Apartment

Detectives from the department's Homicide Unit were handling the investigation because of "unusual circumstances."

SAN DIEGO, CA — An 81-year-old woman was found dead in her San Diego apartment, and authorities were investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

San Diego Police officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel responded around 11:56 p.m. Friday to a 911 call from family members who found the woman unconscious and not breathing inside the apartment in the 6300 block of Genesee Avenue.

Paramedics and officers performed life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the San Diego Police Department.

First responders found the woman "positioned awkwardly on a bed," police said.

Detectives from the department's Homicide Unit were handling the investigation because of "unusual circumstances." The cause and manner of her death have not yet been determined.

Investigators were working with the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
