Police Shoot, Wound Car Burglary Suspect In University City

A suspected car burglar was shot and wounded by a San Diego Police Department officer in University City.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A suspected car burglar was shot and wounded by a San Diego Police Department officer Friday in University City.

The suspect was hospitalized after the shooting and a second suspect was on the run, SDPD Lt. Adam Sharki told OnScene TV.

The two men were trying to burglarize a car parked in the 3400 block of Lebon Drive at about 3 a.m. Friday and they ran when police arrived on the scene, Sharki said.

One of the suspects fired a gun at pursuing officers, who returned fire. The gunman was hit and taken to a hospital, the lieutenant told the video news service. His condition was not immediately known.

As per protocol, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department was investigating the shooting.
