SAN DIEGO, CA — UPDATE: Quigley Fine Wines issued a clarification that its Feb. 1 tasting room launch is a "soft opening" for existing clients and guests. The following post is updated to reflect the change.

Quigley Fine Wines, a 10-year-old, San Diego-based retailer of boutique wines, is poised to add a tasting room to its downtown operations with a "soft" opening celebration set for existing clients and guests Saturday, Feb. 1. In the coming weeks, the tasting room will celebrate its formal public opening with a special grand opening event.

“Prior to the opening of our tasting room, clients could only sample our selections through scheduled winemaker dinners and special events,” said company co-owner Brendan Quigley. “Each wine we carry has its own unique story, and now being able to share that with the public is an exciting, natural next step for our company.”
The locale is at 1551 4th Ave. in the Cortez Hill neighborhood.

Owned by Quigley, along with Christina Quigley and Jeff and Mary Shapiro, the business specializes in unique, hand-crafted wines from Italy, France, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, California and Oregon.
With a rustic, speakeasy feel, the tasting room — for ages 21 and up — will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and by appointment on Tuesdays through Fridays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The main area, that can accommodate parties of up to 35 people, along with a private tasting room, that holds up to 10 guests, also will be used for private events, where clients may select a custom wine menu that includes wine flights, bottles or by-the-glass options, according to managers.
