Registered Sex Offender Arrested For Lewd Acts At SD Hotel Pool

Douglas Richard Madruga, 66, of San Diego, allegedly performed a sex act on a child at Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, police said.

SAN DIEGO, CA – A suspect was arrested for performing a sex act on a child at a hotel in the Marina, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a man harassing children in the pool area around 7:13 p.m. July 3 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina located at 1380 Harbor Island Drive, San Diego Harbor police Lt. Jonathan George said.

On arrival, officers learned that a man had performed a lewd act on a child under 14, police said. The man fled after he was confronted by hotel security prior to police arrival, George said

Following an investigation, the suspect was identified as 66-year-old San Diego resident Douglas Richard Madruga, a registered sex offender.

Detectives arrested Madruga Thursday on two felony counts of performing a lewd act on a child under 14 and two felony counts of harassing or molesting a child under 18, George said.

Using a search warrant, detectives also searched the suspect's house and seized several items.
