Rooftop Cinema Club To Honor Dolly Parton With '9 To 5' Screening

SAN DIEGO, CA — Rooftop Cinema Club will honor late country music star and actress Dolly Parton with a special screening of "9 to 5" in San Diego, with proceeds benefiting the children's literacy program she founded.

The 1980 comedy will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Rooftop Cinema Club atop the Porto Vista Hotel in Little Italy. The screening coincides with "9 to 5 Day," a celebration of Parton and her hit song and film.

Rooftop Cinema Club said 95% of net proceeds from the screening will be donated to The Dollywood Foundation to support Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which provides free books to young children.

Parton, who died Aug. 25 at age 80, wrote and performed the film's title song and starred alongside Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman. Her death followed a career spanning decades in music, film and philanthropy.

Parton founded the Imagination Library in 1995 to provide books to children from birth to age 5. The program has distributed hundreds of millions of books worldwide.

The Sept. 25 event will be Rooftop Cinema Club's second Parton tribute this month. The venue hosted a sold-out screening of "Steel Magnolias" on Sept. 3, with proceeds also benefiting the Imagination Library.

A limited number of tickets remain available for the "9 to 5" screening, according to organizers.
