San Diego County Employees Award $168,000 In Grants

The organization received 203 grant applications this year.

SAN DIEGO, CA – The San Diego County Employees' Charitable Organization Thursday awarded $167,900 in grants to nearly 100 nonprofit organizations for shelter beds, kitchen supplies, books and hundreds of other items.

The organization awarded the grants at its annual breakfast at the County Operations Center. The group describes itself as the charitable arm of the county and has been giving out awards to local social services and other nonprofits since 1956.

The organization, which received 203 grant applications this year, thanked county employees and retirees whose contributions made the awards possible.

The largest award was $10,086.14 to the organization's own employee crisis fund, which provides emergency money for county employees in need.

Other large gifts included $6,172.10 for a meat slicer for the Mama's Kitchen meal delivery service; $2,045 to Mountain Health and Community Services for a vaccine refrigerator; and $3,299.99 for a field brush mower for the Urban Corps of San Diego County.
