San Diego Hospitals Among Best In U.S., New Ranking Says

SAN DIEGO, CA — UC San Diego Health's hospitals are among the best in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2024-2025 Best Hospitals ranking.

For its 35th annual report, U.S. News evaluated more than 5,000 hospitals based on their performance across 30 medical and surgical services.

UC San Diego Health's La Jolla and Hillcrest hospitals secured the No. 1 ranking in San Diego and also received "Honor Roll" designation, a distinction awarded to only 20 hospitals in the nation for exceptional patient care.

"Being named to the national 'Honor Roll' for the second consecutive year and No. 1 in the region for the fifth consecutive year underscores our unwavering commitment to excellence in patient care," said Patty Maysent, CEO of UC San Diego Health. "This recognition is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our entire team, who work tirelessly to ensure our patients receive the highest quality care possible."

U.S. News also ranked the top regional hospitals. These are the top-ranked hospitals in San Diego County:

• UC San Diego Health-La Jolla and Hillcrest Hospitals (No. 1)
• Scripps La Jolla Hospitals (No. 2)
• Sharp Memorial Hospital (No. 3)
• Kaiser Permanente San Diego Zion and San Diego Medical Center (No. 4)
• Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center (No. 5)
• Sharp Grossmont Hospital (No. 6, tie)
• Scripps Mercy Hospital (No. 6, tie)
• Scripps Memorial Hospital-Encinitas (No. 8)

These hospitals are among the 466 Best Regional Hospitals in the country, according to U.S. News.

For the first time this year, U.S. News also identified 98 hospitals across the country for their success in caring for patients from historically underserved communities. In the San Diego region, Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center was recognized.

To calculate the 2024-2025 Best Hospitals for the Honor Roll, specialty and region, U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance using a variety of measures. Data came from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, professional organizations, and medical specialists. The Procedures & Conditions ratings are based entirely on objective patient care measures.
