San Diego Humane Society Offering Microchip Clinic, Waiving Adoption Fees For World Turtle Day

SAN DIEGO, CA — In celebration of World Turtle Day on May 23, San Diego Humane Society will host a special microchip clinic for turtles and tortoises that day at its San Diego campus.

The humane society will also waive adoption fees for all turtles and tortoises at its shelters from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on World Turtle Day.

"Many people don't realize that some reptiles can be microchipped just like dogs and cats," said Dr. Daniel Barbour, a veterinarian with the humane society. "This clinic is a great opportunity for turtle and tortoise owners to take an extra step in protecting their pets."

The event aims to help keep turtles and tortoises safe by providing permanent identification that can help reunite them with their families if they become lost.

Each year, thousands of animals, including turtles and tortoises, are found stray in San Diego County. Microchipping is a simple, safe and effective way to ensure pets can be identified and returned home.

Microchipping services will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $40 per animal. Appointments can be scheduled at sdhumane.org/turtle. Walk-ins will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
