San Diego Native Desiree Linden Wins Boston Marathon
Desiree Linden, who was born and raised in Chula Vista, became the first American woman to win the Boston Marathon since 1985.

SAN DIEGO, CA – A woman from San Diego County made history Monday in Boston.
Fighting through wind and rain, Chula Vista native Desiree Linden became the first American woman to win the Boston Marathon since 1985. The two-time Olympian, who now lives in Michigan, crossed the finish line in an unofficial time of 2 hours, 39 minutes and 54 seconds.
Linden, who graduated from Hilltop High School in 2001, previously finished second at the Boston Marathon in 2011. She represented the United States in the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

The last American woman to win the Boston Marathon was Lisa Larsen Weidenbach in 1985.
