San Diego Nonprofit, Local Nurseries Offer Affordable Trees

SAN DIEGO, CA — San Diego nonprofit Kate Sessions Commitment has partnered with local nurseries to offer new, affordable 5-gallon trees for a pandemic-safe new year activity.

"Growing or gifting of trees demonstrates hope for the future, and planting a tree is such a positive way to start the new year," Delia Juncal, director of Tree Nursery Partnerships, said in a news release.

Kate Sessions Commitment is a network of arborists, gardeners, community advocates, climate activists, local businesses and neighbors across San Diego. The nonprofit's mission is to advocate and take action for the equitable advancement of a San Diego County tree canopy to benefit community health, well-being, climate and economic opportunities.

The organization partnered with Walter Andersen Nursery, City Farmers Nursery and Mission Hills Nursery on the affordable tree project.

"Planting and caring for a tree is an act of creating a better future and leaving a legacy for future generations," Dr. Anne Fege, co-founder of Kate Sessions Commitment, said in a news release. "And it's something that can be done safely, outside in the fresh air, either alone or with family."

Participants can choose from more than 20 varieties of trees including natives and fruit trees. The trees cost $25 to $60.

Trees are available at Walter Andersen Nursery at 3642 Enterprise, San Diego 92110; City Farmers Nursery, 3110 Euclid Ave. 92105; and Mission Hills Nursery, 1525 Fort Stockton Drive 92103. Trees may also be ordered for delivery to Walter Andersen Nursery at the Kate Sessions Commitment website.
