San Diego Oasis Hosts First-Ever ‘Team on a Trek’ at Grossmont Center

Competing teams will complete several challenges and activities throughout the mall to raise funds for the nonprofit's lifelong learners

Local nonprofit San Diego Oasis is excited to host its first-ever “Team on a Trek” fundraiser on Friday, July 28 from 4-7 p.m. at Grossmont Center in La Mesa. All proceeds will support the nonprofit’s mission to change the way people experience and think about aging. Advance registration to participate in the fundraiser is required and available at SanDiegoOasis.org through July 14.

During the inaugural three-hour event, teams of two to six individuals will participate in a series of fun challenges at various stations throughout Grossmont Center, including Elam’s Hallmark, Brand’s Overstock and more. Teams are encouraged to dress in creative costumes or matching attire. The surprise challenges will be varied from silly to savvy and may include the following activities and much more:

  • Line dancing
  • Answering questions on current events
  • Dressing up a team member in a wedding gown
  • Writing a poem
  • Identifying technology scams

“We’re very excited to bring together individuals of all ages for an afternoon of fun and fundraising in support of the San Diego Oasis mission,” says Event Chair and San Diego Oasis Board Member, Tracey Stotz. “The challenge stations throughout Grossmont Center showcase some of the classes that San Diego Oasis offers. From challenges that may involve foreign language and poetry to dance and technology, ‘Team on a Trek’ will have something everyone will enjoy.”

At event check-in, each team will receive a passport to collect stamps when they complete a challenge. The stamps will then be exchanged for raffle tickets that will be drawn for various prizes. In addition to the exciting activities, participants will also enjoy live music by the Off The Hook Band and an array of free snacks. The afternoon event will culminate with fun awards, including “Best Dressed,” “Best Team Name” and more.

“Whether it’s for a summer team retreat, a family outing, a double date, or even a first date, we encourage anyone and everyone to sign up to participate in the inaugural ‘Team on a Trek’ fundraiser to support San Diego Oasis’ mission and members. We’re thankful to all our volunteers and community partners for their support.”
