SAN DIEGO, CA — A pedestrian was killed Wednesday after being struck by a San Diego police vehicle in the Linda Vista neighborhood.
An officer was driving westbound in the 5800 block of Linda Vista Road near Goshen Street at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when the officer felt an impact. The officer turned the patrol car around and found a man lying in the roadway, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Officials said the officer and arriving backup officers administered first aid until San Diego Fire-Rescue Department personnel arrived. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said it was unclear why the man entered the roadway. The officer was not injured.
Police described the victim as a white man in his early 20s. His identity is being withheld pending family notification. The identity of the officer involved in the fatal collision was not immediately available.

The SDPD Traffic Unit and the Collision Investigations Bureau were investigating the crash.
