San Diego Ranked Among CA's Healthiest Cities: Report

A recent report listed the healthiest and unhealthiest cities in the U.S. See how your area fared.

SAN DIEGO, CA — As California continues to heal from the scars left by the COVID-19 pandemic, health and wellness have become topics of heightened concern among residents. In a new report, Wallethub researchers compared cities across the state for indicators of good health.

Wallethub compared 182 cities across the U.S. — including the 150 most populous cities — and 29 Golden State cities were ranked. Researchers analyzed four key dimensions, including health care, food fitness and green space.

San Diego was listed at No. 3 on 2022’s Healthiest and Unhealthiest Cities in America ranking. San Diego ranked fourth in food, seventh in green space, 19th in fitness and 40th in health care.

San Francisco was perched at the top of the list for having the lowest percentage of adults not eating enough fruits and vegetables per day, and having the largest amount of healthy restaurants per capita. But the city was also ranked as one of the worst cities for having the highest average monthly cost of fitness-club memberships.

San Bernardino, Fontana and Moreno Valley were ranked as some of the unhealthiest cities. Stockton was also listed as one of the cities with the fewest dietitians and nutritionists per capita. Chula Vista was listed as one of the worst cities having the fewest healthy restaurants per capita.
