Aztecs face UC Davis and Mountain West foe Nevada
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State swimming and diving squad heads to Reno, Nevada, to face UC Davis and Nevada on Saturday, Sept. 30. San Diego State is coming off a campaign-opening 33-24 win over San Diego in the teams’ annual pentathlon meet on Sept. 15. UC Davis and Nevada both open its 2017-18 slates this weekend as action at Lombardi Pool will begin at 12:00 p.m. PT this Saturday.

SDSU had each of the top three finishers in the team’s pentathlon meet against USD, highlighted by Frida Berggren, who led all swimmers with a combined time of 4:58.57. Berggren was followed by fellow Aztecs McKenna Meyer (5:02.97) and Alma Thormalm (5:04.96). Other Aztecs with first-place finishes at USD include Elliyana Ferrin (58.76 in 100 back) and Caitlin Delaney (1:05.95 in 100 breast).
The Aztecs have 11 newcomers to the 2017-18 squad, divided between nine freshmen and a pair of transfers. The team also returns 19 members of last year’s team that finished second in the Mountain West Championships. Last season, San Diego State edged out Nevada, which finished third in the Mountain West Championships in 2016-17, while UC Davis finished third in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.
Following Saturday’s meet, SDSU will head to Malibu, California, to face Pepperdine next Thursday, Oct. 5.
