SAN DIEGO — A San Diego third grade teacher is one of five educators across the country chosen to receive new classroom furniture, storage and decor, the online furniture company Wayfair announced Tuesday.

Wayfair's business program, Wayfair Professional, chose Shoal Creek Elementary's Jessica Poggemoeller and teachers from Portland, Maine; North Charleston, South Carolina; Rochester, New York; and Layton, Utah, as the winners of its Dream Classroom Giveaway contest.

More than 2,300 teachers across the country were nominated and winners were chosen for their efforts to improve their learning environment and unique approaches to teaching. Poggemoeller was nominated 10 times and has worked to develop the school's science, technology, engineering and math program as well as a creative arts space.

"These are exceptional teachers who are leaders and innovators in their communities," said Wayfair Professional Vice President Margaret Lawrence. "We hope that with top of the line classroom furniture, storage, and decor, these teachers will have the upgraded classrooms they need to continue impacting their students and community for many years to come."

According to Wayfair, Poggemoeller plans to use the contest winnings to improve hands-on learning activities and organization in her teaching spaces. Winning teachers will work with the company to choose new classroom items like marker boards and student desks through the fall.
