Schimpf Is First Padre Named Rookie Of Month In 10 Years
The National League Rookie of the Month for July, Ryan Schimpf, will receive a specially designed trophy.

SAN DIEGO, CA — It's been a decade since the San Diego Padres had a player named the National League Rookie of the Month. The dry spell is over. Second baseman Ryan Schimpf of the San Diego Padres was voted the National League's Rookie of the Month for July, Major League Baseball announced Wednesday in a news release.
Further, Schimpf is the fourth Padres Rookie to win the Rookie of the Month award since its inception in 2001. Xavier Nady won the honor in May 2003, Khalil Greene in April 2004 and August 2004, and Josh Barfield in July 2006.

In 24 games last month, the left-handed-hitting slugger led all Major League players with nine home runs
and ranked second in slugging with a .705 mark. Schimpf paced Major League rookies with 15 extra-base hits,
55 total bases and a .387 on-base percentage, while his 17 runs scored ranked second. His 17 RBI were tied for
second among NL rookies, while his .269 (21-for-78) batting average ranked fourth.
On July 6, Schimpf notched his first career multi-home run performance in a 13-6 win at Arizona. The
Louisiana State University product clubbed a line-drive, two-run homer in the fourth inning and added a solo shot in the ninth. The three RBI marked a career high for the 28-year-old, and it was also his third consecutive multihit performance.

This is Schimpf's first career monthly award.
