Scooter Rider Injured In East Village Vehicle Collision

The woman sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 66-year-old motorized scooter rider was seriously injured in a collision with a vehicle in the East Village, police said Wednesday.

The collision happened at 10:41 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of 14th Street, said Officer David O'Brien of the San Diego Police Department.

"The scooter entered the western crosswalk with Market Street against the don't cross signal," the officer said.

A 36-year-old man driving a 2020 Acura entered the intersection at 14th Street on the green light and collided with the scooter in the crosswalk, O'Brien said.

The woman sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Her injuries were considered to be life-threatening.

SDPD Traffic Division units responded and were handling the investigation.
