'Scream Zone' Cancels For Halloween 2021 At Del Mar Fairgrounds In San Diego County

The 24-year, San Diego terror-fest tradition at Del Mar "Scaregrounds," is scrapped, but other local, fear-inducing "fun" can be found.

DEL MAR, CA — The Scream Zone, a Halloween haunt that reigned scary-supreme for 24 years at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego County, will not return to the "Scaregrounds" for the 2021 season, according to organizers.

"San Diego’s favorite fright fest, the Scream Zone, will be resting in its crypt for the 2021 season," officials said. "Horrifying, we know."

The event, which typically ran weekends throughout October, featured such attractions as haunted walk-thrus, hayrides and music fests. In 2020, the attraction pivoted to a drive-thru format to comply with COVID-19 mandates.

"The Scream Zone has been tempting terror-lovers for the past 24 years, but the 2021 event will take a break," organizers announced Thursday. "Check back next summer for updates on our plans for scare season 2022. Until then, stay frightening my friends."
