SDPD Officer, Pedestrian Seriously Injured By Vehicle
The San Diego officer was in the process of arresting the man when both were struck by car in Midway area, officials said.
SAN DIEGO, CA – A San Diego police officer was in serious, but stable condition and a pedestrian was in critical condition with life- threatening injuries Thursday morning after they were both struck by a vehicle on a street in the Midway District, police said.
Police say they responded at 4:48 a.m. to a report of vandalism in the 3100 block of Midway Drive.
Officers arrived and found a suspect in the area, but the suspect attempted to flee on foot and officers chased him, San Diego Police Sgt. Victoria Houseman said.

One officer caught up to the suspect in the 3500 block of Rosecrans Street and was taking the man into custody in the street when they were both struck by a vehicle, Houseman said.
Both patients were taken to hospitals, San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Rick Ballard said, adding that one went to UC San Diego Medical Center and the other went to Scripps Mercy Hospital.

As of 7:45 a.m., the officer was in serious, but stable condition and the pedestrian, a man in his early 30s, remained in critical condition with injuries that were believed to be life-threatening, Houseman said.
Police shut down southbound Rosecrans Street between Midway Drive and Sports Arena Boulevard for the crash investigation.
