SeaWorld San Diego's All-New Shark Encounter Opening In May

SAN DIEGO, CA — SeaWorld San Diego will open a new shark exhibit May 22, featuring immersive viewing experiences, additional species and interactive elements aimed at educating visitors about marine conservation.

Shark Encounter will allow guests to view 11 shark species, including sand tiger sharks, blacktip reef sharks and the endangered Australian leopard shark. The exhibit includes above-water viewing areas, an underwater tunnel with a moving walkway and a floor-to-ceiling glass wall paired with multimedia displays.

Park officials said annual pass holders will receive early access on select dates before the public opening.

SeaWorld San Diego President Tyler Carter said the exhibit is designed to give visitors a closer look at sharks while challenging misconceptions about the animals.

"The all-new Shark Encounter is an awe-inspiring experience that brings guests face-to-face with some of the ocean's most powerful and misunderstood predators," Carter said. "From above-water viewing to the immersive shark tunnel, this dynamic habitat offers a deeper appreciation for these incredible animals while reinforcing our commitment to marine education, conservation, and inspiring the next generation of ocean advocates."

The opening follows the park's recent accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, which recognized its animal care programs.
