Security Guard Fatally Shot At Crystal Pier In Pacific Beach

The 31-year-old victim was unarmed and working at Crystal Pier when he was shot, San Diego police said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A security guard was shot and killed early Monday while working at Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach, authorities said.

The shooting was reported shortly after 2 a.m. in the 4500 block of Ocean Boulevard, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Employees at a nearby bar who heard gunfire ran outside and found the man critically injured, police said. They began first aid until police officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel arrived.

The 31-year-old man was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police said he was unarmed and working as a security guard at Crystal Pier when he was shot. His name was withheld pending family notification.

Homicide detectives were interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses as they worked to determine what led to the shooting.

A motive was not immediately known. Police said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
