SAN DIEGO, CA — Several San Diego area schools were closed Wednesday after a winter storm brought snow to the county's mountains.
The schools were closed due to inclement weather and icy road conditions, according to the San Diego County Office of Education.
"The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," the County Office of Education said in a statement.

The schools in the following districts were closed and had a snow day on Wednesday:
- Julian Union Elementary School District
- Julian Union High School District
- Mountain Empire Unified School District
- Spencer Valley School District
- Warner Unified School District
Schools were expected to resume Thursday, but some schools planned to start later in the morning because of inclement weather and icy road conditions.

The schools in the following districts planned later start times for students on Thursday:
- Julian Union High School District was scheduled to start at 9:10 a.m.
- Julian Union Elementary School District was scheduled to start at 9:20 a.m.
- Warner Unified School District was scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.
