SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.
But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should know that it's expected to heat up this week, according to the National Weather Service.
"High pressure building over the Great Basin Tuesday through Thursday will bring warmer weather to the valleys and mountains, and hot weather to the deserts midweek," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Sunday. "Cooler next weekend with increasing onshore flow and a deeper marine layer."

In other news, an earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area Sunday morning. Residents reported feeling the quake across Los Angeles County.
Also on Sunday, a swimmer was seriously injured in a shark attack in San Diego County, authorities said. The attack occurred less than a week after an aggressive shark believed to be a great white knocked a surfer off his board in Orange County.
