Small Plane Crashes In San Diego's East County

The crash was reported in the area of Lily Avenue and Clarke Drive in El Cajon, according to Heartland Fire & Rescue.

EL CAJON, CA — A small plane crashed Sunday evening in eastern San Diego County, authorities said.

The crash was reported shortly before 6:30 p.m. in the area of Lily Avenue and Clarke Drive in El Cajon, according to Heartland Fire & Rescue.

The pilot was injured in the crash and taken to a hospital, NBC 7 San Diego reported.

Authorities asked the public to avoid the area for two hours after the crash. There were multiple road closures in the area, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

The plane hit some power lines in the crash, officials said. More than 1,000 SDG&E customers near El Cajon were without power immediately following the crash, according to the utility company's website.
