Spectrum announced a donation of $10,000 to the Alpha Project for the Homeless through the company’s national community philanthropic program, Spectrum Employee Community Grants.

Founded in 1986, Alpha Project for the Homeless began by offering work opportunities for individuals experiencing homelessness. Today, Alpha Project serves over 10,000 people annually through various programs providing emergency, transitional, and permanent housing and supportive services. Additionally, Alpha Project runs residential treatment, street outreach, community work programs, and housing assistance including Rapid Rehousing and Permanent Supportive Housing.

“We are incredibly grateful to Spectrum for their generous support of Alpha Project’s Shorty’s Home Goods program,” said Bob McElroy, Alpha Project for the Homeless, President & CEO. “Many of those we serve have very few, if any, belongings when they move into housing, and this grant will help individuals and families transitioning from homelessness into permanent housing by providing essential furniture and household items, helping to create the comforts of home and supporting their long-term housing stability.”

“I nominated Alpha Project because I’ve seen their impact both as a former employee and now as a volunteer,” said Morrison, Spectrum Community Solutions Sales. “They walk side by side with people—from getting housed to finding jobs to rebuilding their lives. One of my clients went from being at risk of losing everything to being fully independent. That kind of transformation is why I stay connected and why I believe so strongly in their work.”

“Alpha Project has been a steadfast partner to the City of San Diego, delivering shelter and support services that have been a lifeline for our neighbors in need,” said Councilmember Stephen Whitburn, District 3. “I’m grateful that Spectrum is recognizing Alpha Project’s vital work with this $10,000 grant, which will help them continue uplifting some of our city’s most vulnerable residents.”

Spectrum Employee Community Grants have provided funding to nearly 600 local nonprofits in 35 states throughout the company’s service area since its inception in July 2019.

“Through Spectrum Employee Community Grants, we’re proud to provide support to vital community organizations with which our employees are already volunteering their time and talent,” said Wally Bakare, Regional Vice President, Field Operations for Spectrum. “Together, we’re building stronger communities where our customers and employees live and work across the country.”

Recipients deliver critical social services, helping underserved residents meet basic needs, including food, shelter, clothing, job training and neighborhood safety. Each awardee is nominated by one of the company’s 95,000 U.S. employees who has volunteered with the organization for at least one year.
