State DOJ Launches Investigation Into Deputy-Involved Fatal Shooting In Escondido

There was no threat to the community but the public was advised to avoid the area, the sheriff's office said.

ESCONDIDO, CA — The California Department of Justice has launched an investigation after a person was killed in a deputy-involved shooting early Wednesday in northern San Diego County, state officials said.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the 26000 block of North Broadway in Escondido, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting resulted in the death of one individual and involved the sheriff's office, according to a statement from California Attorney General Rob Bonta. No additional details about the circumstances of the shooting or the identity of the person killed were released.

City News Service reported that officials said the shooting happened as deputies were attempting to arrest a possible stabbing suspect.
