Stepson Arrested In San Diego Stepmom's Suspicious Death: Police

Deputies arrested him in Escondido after the woman was found in her Citrus Hills Lane home, dead of "suspicious circumstances."

ESCONDIDO, CA — Police swarmed an Escondido man's home over the weekend following the suspicious death of his stepmother.

Christopher Ryan Trudell, 43, was taken into custody Sunday by San Diego County Sheriff's Deputies on pending murder charges, they say.

In late May, San Marcos station deputies arrived in the 1600 block of Citrus Hills Lane, an unincorporated area near Escondido. There, they found the body of Marytrese Comer, 78, and an investigation into her death ensued.

"The sheriff's Homicide Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation due to suspicious circumstances," the agency said. With no obvious signs of trauma, and her cause of death was still being investigated, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

Trudell is being held without bail and was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday at the North County Superior Court.
