Storm Brings Rain And Snow To San Diego County

Light rain showers will continue Monday throughout the county and snow will fall in the mountains as a storm moves through SoCal.

SAN DIEGO — Light rain showers will continue Monday throughout San Diego County and snow will fall in the mountains as a winter storm moves through Southern California, according to the National Weather Service.

The low pressure system will continue moving southeast Monday before reaching Baja California by the evening, NWS meteorologist Miguel Miller said.

The storm is expected to produce up to a quarter-inch of rain in coastal and inland valley areas, while up to 4 inches of rain could fall in the deserts, Miller said.

By 5 a.m. Monday, these were some of the rain totals throughout the county:

  • Encinitas: 0.24 of an inch

  • La Jolla: 0.14
  • La Mesa: 0.33
  • Lemon Grove: 0.26
  • Oceanside: 0.11
  • Point Loma: 0.60
  • Poway: 0.45
  • Ramona: 0.23
  • Rancho Bernardo: 0.30
  • San Diego International Airport: 0.16
  • Santee: 0.33

Snow levels will drop to around 5,000 feet in the mountains Monday, where between 3 to 8 inches of snow is expected to fall, Miller said.

By 5 a.m., the NWS reported snow was falling in Mount Laguna. Weather officials advised motorists to be prepared for chain restrictions.

The rain is expected to halt by Monday evening, then fair and seasonal weather will set in, lasting through Friday, when a second storm system could bring another round of precipitation, Miller said.

High temperatures Monday could reach 67 degrees near the coast and inland, 68 in the western valleys, 61 near the foothills, 52 in the mountains and 65 in the deserts.
