Students at Discovery Isle Celebrate Earth Day with Ladybug Release

Students celebrated Earth Day by releasing hundreds of beneficial bugs into their schoolyard to help local vegetation

On April 22, students at Discovery Isle Preschool in the Penasquitos area of San Diego explored a bug’s life in celebration of Earth Day as they released hundreds of ladybugs throughout the schoolyard and back into the environment on plants, flowers and trees. Students additionally learned the important role of plants as they planted flowers and other plants on their playground.

Leading up to Earth Day, students learned that ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide by feeding on insects that could otherwise harm the health of gardens, trees and shrubs. Discovery Isle teaches the importance of community and exploring nature at an early age.
