Suspect Jailed In Slaying Of Man At Rolando-Area Veterinary Clinic

Patrick Timothy O'Brien of San Diego was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 37-year-old man was in custody Thursday for allegedly killing an octogenarian who caught him burglarizing a Rolando-area veterinary clinic, authorities reported.

Patrol personnel responding to a report of a burglary in progress in the 7000 block of El Cajon Boulevard about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday arrived to find a citizen detaining the suspected perpetrator, Patrick Timothy O'Brien of San Diego, behind the animal-care center, according to police.

Inside the clinic, officers found an 88-year-old man suffering from a head wound and other injuries, SDPD Lt. Steve Shebloski said. Paramedics took the victim to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.

O'Brien was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder. He was being held without bail, with arraignment scheduled for Friday afternoon.
