Suspect Questioned After Shooting Leaves 2 Dead In East Village

A man and a woman were shot to death in the woman's apartment in East Village, police said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A man and a woman were shot to death in the woman's apartment in East Village, police said Friday.

Around 3:11 p.m. Thursday, officers from the San Diego Police Department responded to a report of two victims with gunshot wounds inside of an apartment at 1475 Island Ave., according to a news release. The victims were pronounced dead at 3:31 p.m. after being assessed by officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel on scene.

The woman was a resident of the building and is described as a 28-year- old and Filipino. Her identity has not been released. The male victim's identity was not released and he was not a resident of the apartment.

SDPD homicide detectives learned the person who reported the shooting also lived in the building, Lt. Adam Sharki said, and located him through a traffic stop near the interchange of the 805 and 15 freeways.

Police are questioning the suspect about the incident and he is cooperating in the investigation.
Sharki said the investigation is ongoing, and there are no other suspects.
