Suspect Wanted In Deadly Shooting Outside South Bay Bar

Investigators believe Roberto Jacinto Diego, 47, of Chula Vista may have crossed the border into Mexico.

CHULA VISTA, CA — Authorities have publicly identified a fugitive suspect in the slaying of a man who was fatally shot outside a bar in San Diego's South Bay.

Roberto Jacinto Diego, 47, of Chula Vista is suspected of shooting Pablo Hernandez Jr., 31, of San Diego around 1:40 a.m. Dec. 28 at 656 E St. in Chula Vista, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.

Hernandez was with a group of people in the parking lot of the bar when he was shot, police said. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he died on Jan. 1.

Detectives identified Jacinto Diego as the suspected killer after interviewing witnesses and reviewing images of his vehicle captured by an automated license plate reader, police announced Tuesday.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Jacinto Diego. Investigators believe he may have crossed the border into Mexico.

Anyone with information about Jacinto Diego's whereabouts was asked to contact San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or investigators via the P3 Tips mobile app. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to his arrest.
