SWAT Team Surrounds Home In San Diego

A man was taken to a mental health facility, several hours after a SWAT team responded to a gunshot fired inside a home, officials said.

SAN DIEGO, CA – A man was taken to a mental health facility Monday, several hours after a SWAT team responded to a gunshot fired inside a home in the Birdland area, officials said.

Police were sent to conduct a welfare check on a man who was believed to be suicidal about 4:45 p.m. Sunday at a residence in the 7600 block of Seagull Court, about a half-mile from Fletcher Elementary School, San Diego Police Officer John Buttle said.

As officers approached, they heard a gunshot and called for assistance from a SWAT team, Buttle said.

Officers established a perimeter around the house and nearby residents were told to shelter in place.

Finch Lane was closed from Redbird Drive to Teebird Lane during the incident, 10News reported.

Police could be heard on a loudspeaker telling the man they were there to help him.

At around 12:15 a.m. Monday, the man exited the house and was taken into police custody before being transported to a mental health facility, Buttle said.

No injuries were reported.
