Teen Fractures Femur In San Diego Crash

A 17-year-old boy suffered a fractured femur when he crashed his bicycle into the side of a pickup at a Cherokee Point intersection.

SAN DIEGO – A 17-year-old boy suffered a fractured femur when he crashed his bicycle into the side of a pickup at a Cherokee Point intersection, police said Thursday.

The crash happened around 10:35 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Landis and 36th streets, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.

A 28-year-old man was driving a 2006 Toyota Tacoma southbound on 36th Street while the teen was traveling eastbound on Landis Street on a BMX-style bicycle with no lights or working brakes, Buttle said.

The pickup entered the path of the bicyclist and the teen crashed into the passenger side of the pickup, the officer said.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of a fractured left femur, which was not believed to be life-threatening, Buttle said.

The pickup driver remained at the scene and intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, he said.
