Teen Hospitalized After Solo-Vehicle Crash In Chula Vista

The driver, who was a minor, pulled the unconscious passenger out of the truck prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, police said.

CHULA VISTA, CA — A teenager was hospitalized after the truck he was riding in crashed Wednesday in San Diego's South Bay, authorities said.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. when a westbound Ford pickup truck veered off the roadway and struck a tree and a fire hydrant in the 1800 block of Hunte Parkway in Chula Vista, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.

"Officers located the collision and found an unconscious 16-year-old male with serious injuries who had already been pulled from the vehicle," Officer Jack Lee said. "Officers began lifesaving measures until medics arrived and transported the 16-year-old to the hospital."

The driver, described only as a minor, pulled the injured 16-year-old passenger out of the vehicle prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, Lee said.

"The 16-year-old male remains in the hospital undergoing treatment for serious injuries," he said. "The juvenile driver stayed on scene and was cooperative with the investigation. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor at this time."
