Teen Killed, Another Badly Injured In Car Crash On SR-905

SAN DIEGO, CA — Two 19-year-old men were injured early Monday, one fatally, when the car they were in crashed on an Otay Mesa freeway, authorities reported.

The driver of the BMW 435i lost control for unknown reasons while heading east on state Route 905 shortly after midnight, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a guardrail west of Heritage Road and overturned before rolling side-over-side down an embankment, CHP public-affairs Officer Salvador Castro said.

After emergency personnel freed the two teenagers from the crumpled car, paramedics pronounced the passenger dead at the scene of the accident. His name was withheld pending family notification.

An ambulance crew took the other young man to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Castro said.

Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, according to the Highway Patrol.
