Mateo and Olivia were the two most popular baby names for newborns last year in San Diego County. They were followed by Liam, Noah, Emma and Isabella in the county's annual top 10 baby name lists.
In 2022, 234 babies were named Mateo, while 211 babies were named Olivia, according to the county's Health and Human Services Agency, which records all births in the region each year. Mateo was the third most popular name for boys in the county in 2021, 2020 and 2017. Olivia ranked as the top name for girls in the county in 2020 and 2019.

A total of 37,753 babies were born in the county in 2022, including 19,278 boys and 18,473 girls. The state's Department of Public Health records the top names and passes the information on to counties.
