They Arrived With $300. Then They Built NO WORRIES Barber & Brow Co. in San Diego.

When Oryna Kurasova, known to clients as Arina, and her husband, Max, arrived in the United States in 2022, they had $300 between them and did not speak English. Today, the couple from Kyiv runs NO WORRIES Barber & Brow Co. in Mission Valley, San Diego.

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine had forced them to leave their home and careers behind. After donating nearly all their savings to the Ukrainian military and volunteer organizations, they borrowed money for plane tickets. During their journey, their professional tools, supplies and personal belongings were stolen at an airport in Mexico.

Volunteers helped with temporary housing and food. Max’s first job was at a car wash; Arina helped decorate events with flowers. They worked to support themselves while finding a way back to their professions. Within approximately six months of arriving, they established their company and opened their studio.

Max has eight years of professional barbering experience and previously worked in Kyiv. Arina Kurasova has 13 years of experience in brow and lash artistry and previously owned a beauty salon in Ukraine.

A licensed brow artist and educator, Arina is an ELAN ambassador and trainer, a member of the International Association of Brow Artists, and a winner of international brow and lash championships. She also serves as a judge at international beauty competitions.

At NO WORRIES, that experience translates into attention to each client’s features, preferences and everyday routine. Brow services include shaping, tinting, lamination and lightening, alongside lash lifts and tinting. Max offers men’s haircuts, beard shaping and gray blending, with careful attention to proportions and finishing details.

Their “for him & for her” concept brings these specialties into one welcoming space. Couples and friends can arrange appointments at the same time, while individual clients are equally welcome. The goal is to help each person leave feeling confident, cared for and comfortable with their look.

They began building their clientele without an advertising budget, relying on their work, trust and word-of-mouth referrals. Four years into their American journey, they are building a team and creating opportunities for other professionals.

Arina and Max remain grateful to the volunteers and San Diego community who helped them begin again. They hope their story encourages others starting over and invite local residents to experience the personal care behind NO WORRIES.

On October 3, Arina and Max will bring NO WORRIES Barber & Brow Co. to a festival at Liberty Station in San Diego. Visitors can meet the founders, learn more about the studio and experience their services at the event.
