Tips Sought: Woman Suffers Severe Head Injury In La Mesa Assault

LA MESA, CA — Authorities sought the public's help Thursday in identifying a man being sought for questioning regarding an assault that left a woman critically injured last week in La Mesa.

The assault was reported shortly before 8 a.m. April 30 at 8274 Parkway Drive, according to the La Mesa Police Department. Officers found a 38-year-old woman, believed to be experiencing homelessness, unconscious and bleeding from the head.

Investigators believe the attack happened during the early morning hours of April 30. Authorities said the relationship between the victim and the suspect was unknown.

Officers provided first aid until paramedics arrived. The woman was taken to a local hospital with a severe head injury and remains in critical condition, police said.

Police identified a person of interest described as a Latino man with facial hair. He was wearing a blue sweatshirt with "San Diego" printed on the front, blue pants and white shoes.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault or who has information about the person's identity was asked to call the department at 619-667-1400. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through San Diego County Crime Stoppers.
