Union Reaches Tentative Agreement With Hilton Bayfront After Strike
The deal was announced after hundreds of workers went on strike outside the hotel ahead of San Diego Comic-Con.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A union representing hotel workers reached a tentative agreement Wednesday night with Hilton Bayfront San Diego.
The deal was announced after hundreds of workers went on strike Wednesday morning outside the hotel, which is located next to the San Diego Convention Center where San Diego Comic-Con will take place through Sunday. Union leadership paused the strike after the tentative deal was reached, Unite Here Local 30 said.
"This tentative agreement addresses the many issues our hotel workers are experiencing in this tough economic environment," said Brigette Browning, president of Unite Here Local 30, a hotel and hospitality workers' union that represents about 6,000 members working in the hotel, food service and hospitality industries in San Diego and Imperial counties. "The economy cannot truly recover from the pandemic by leaving behind residents who work in the hospitality industry, and now these hardworking San Diegans have a fighting chance to succeed."

Unite Here Local 30 represents nearly 600 hotel workers at Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Workers have been negotiating for a wage increase and other benefits, according to the union.
The union's members voted last Friday to authorize its leadership to call a strike if necessary. The tentative agreement still must be ratified by members before it becomes final, according to the union.

"We did not want to strike during this important week for San Diego tourism, but it's clear this is what it took to get the wages and benefits these workers deserve," Browning said.
