Woman Arrested In Fatal Stabbing Of Partner In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA — A San Diego man was fatally stabbed at his home Friday, and his common-law wife was arrested on suspicion of murder, authorities said.

The man was publicly identified Tuesday as Daniel Estevan Cornejo, 33, and his partner, Sandra Venta, 33, was arrested after the stabbing at their home in the Corridor neighborhood, according to the San Diego Police Department.

San Diego police officers responded about 11:30 a.m. Aug. 21 to the residence in the 4000 block of 39th Street after neighbors reported hearing a loud argument followed by an apparent stabbing.

Officers found Cornejo suffering from significant bleeding inside the home, police said. Officers performed life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Venta remained at the home and reported minor injuries. Initial information gathered by officers indicated she had stabbed Cornejo, police said.

The couple lived together as common-law spouses and shared a 6-year-old child, who was at school when the stabbing occurred. San Diego police worked with San Diego Unified School Police to locate the child, who was later reunited with extended family.

Venta was taken to a hospital for evaluation and later released. She was booked into Las Colinas Detention Facility on suspicion of murder.
