Woman Seriously Injured In Crash In Miramar

An 81-year-old woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision in the Miramar area of San Diego.

SAN DIEGO — An 81-year-old woman was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision in the Miramar area of San Diego.

The woman was driving east in the 7100 block of Miramar Road in a 2014 Lexus SUV just before 4 p.m. when she pulled into the left turn lane at the intersection of Miramar Way, according to San Diego Police Department Sgt. Michael Tansey.

The woman failed to stop for a red traffic signal and made a left turn in front of a westbound 2015 Mercedes-Benz cargo van, which struck the Lexus in the intersection, Tansey said.

The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of a torn aorta, according to Tansey.

The Mercedes-Benz driver had a minor complaint of pain, according to Tansey, who said drugs and alcohol were not suspected as factors in the collision.
