Tourists affected by the closure who previously purchased tickets have been refunded, officials said.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Alcatraz Island, one of the San Francisco Bay Area's most iconic sites, will be off limits to tourists this week as it undergoes repairs at the docks.

Alcatraz Island will remain closed for dock repairs between Monday and Friday, officials announced on Monday. The tours are expected to resume on Saturday.

An alert about the closure has been posted to the National Parks Service website for Alcatraz Island informing prospective visitors to reschedule their tours by calling Alcatraz City Cruises at 415-981-7625.

In an email to SF Gate, Joshua Winchell, a spokesperson for the park, said the closure was previously planned “specifically to repair and inspect the dock pilings." He said buyers have been refunded for previously-purchased tickets, the SF Gate reported.

Winchell said updates on the status of Alcatraz Island will be shared on the NPS website.
