📰 News we're reading

• There's A Treasure Chest Containing Over $10K Buried Somewhere In San Francisco (patch.com) — San Franciscans are invited to join a new citywide treasure hunt, with a 150-pound chest containing $10,001 buried somewhere under a foot of soil within city limits. Anonymous organizers, who launched the game on the r/sanfrancisco subreddit, have released a dense riddle of clues and say one searcher has already come very close. Participants need no special equipment, just patience, puzzle skills, and a willingness to explore San Francisco’s parks and viewpoints.

• San Francisco woman gets photographer's old phone number: it changes both their lives (nbcbayarea.com) — A San Francisco-connected photographer’s legacy is getting new life after a local woman was accidentally assigned his old phone number and started receiving messages meant for him. Their unlikely friendship has led to a GoFundMe, new social media accounts, and fresh attention on his iconic Bay Area images, including a famous Loma Prieta earthquake shot of the Bay Bridge.

• SF immigration court — one of the busiest in the nation — closes months ahead of schedule (sfstandard.com) — San Francisco’s main immigration court at 100 Montgomery St. has permanently closed months early, shifting nearly 120,000 cases to the already overburdened Concord court. With local judges cut from 22 to just two, asylum seekers and immigrants from across Northern California now face even longer waits and more complicated logistics for hearings in and around the city.
