Weather forecast:
1. Embattled SF Burger Joint Closes After Less Than A Year: Report (patch.com) — San Francisco diners have one less burger option after Hamburger Project’s Guerrero Street location quietly shut down less than a year after opening, following controversy over a viral photo of raw meat left on the sidewalk. Co-owner Tan Truong said the site never gained traction and emphasized that the improperly delivered food was discarded and protocols were reinforced, while the original Divisadero Street restaurant remains open.
2. 7 SF Hospitals Earn 'B' Grades, 1 Earns 'A' Grades In New Hospital Safety Ranking (patch.com) — San Francisco residents can now see how their local hospitals stack up on patient safety, with just one facility, CPMC Mission Bernal, earning an A grade and seven others receiving Bs in the latest Leapfrog rankings. The report highlights where major SF hospitals like UCSF campuses and CPMC sites stand, while also noting broader national improvements in infection control, medication safety, and patient experience.
3. San Francisco has almost borrowed about as much money as it can, report says (missionlocal.org) — San Francisco is nearing the ceiling on how much it can borrow for critical infrastructure, even as it faces $7.5 billion in long-delayed projects. A new report warns that key needs like the Westside emergency firefighting water system and a new Hall of Justice may require higher property taxes, looser debt limits, or redirecting existing bond funds, all with tradeoffs for city services.
4. TB outbreak at SF high school affects nearly 1 in 5, further testing underway (ktvu.com) — Nearly one in five people at San Francisco’s Archbishop Riordan High School have tested positive for latent or active tuberculosis, prompting another round of testing this week overseen by the city’s health department. Officials report transmission is declining, most cases are latent and under treatment, and they’re focusing on those recently exposed or previously testing positive to keep the campus community safe.
5. ‘Safety Brothers:' Larry Low tapped for S.F. police commission — brother of fire commissioner Allan Low (missionlocal.org) — San Francisco’s mayor has appointed longtime attorney Larry Low to the city’s Police Commission, joining his brother Allan Low, who serves on the Fire Commission, in shaping public safety policy. Low says he wants residents to feel San Francisco is a safe place to thrive, bringing decades of legal and civil-rights experience and a focus on accountability, support for police, and restorative justice.
